Muskie Alumni sharing American Experience in Telenesti
Thursday, October 28th, Ludmila Balteanu, Muskie alumna 2008, held a discussion with health care workers on social support and HIV antiretroviral treatment adherence. Thirty seven physicians and nurses from Telenesti district hospital and consultation medical center attended the discussion on approaches for long term HIV treatment adherence. They learned about measurement methods of treatment adherence and strategies to improve it, individually tailored adherence support programs, including social support, case management and integrated medical and social services for HIV patients. Health care workers mentioned that learning about treatment adherence support programs would help them to make better use of community recourses and extend the existing cooperation with local nongovernmental organizations to improve treatment outcomes and quality of life of HIV patients. Physicians and nurses would be able to apply the concept of treatment adherence support beyond the HIV care for other chronic clinical conditions and set the quality of life as part of expected outcome in patient centered care.
